That’s what Republicans do though. They underfund or put ridiculous burdens on governmential agencies so that they’ll be less efficient then turn around and say, “see, government is inefficient, we need to privatize everything.”
They did this with the US Postal Service, too. Congressional Republicans passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006which says that that USPS had to fund retirement pensions not just for their current employees, but any potential employees, for the next 80 years. It has caused an incredible financial mess of the USPS, which Republicans then used to slash USPS’s funding, causing more ineffiency and help further privatize the shipping industry. The VA is another example.
State governments do this with public education and infrastructure, too.
“you have to pay us more now because we burnt your fucking house down”
step 1: adopt negligent and unsafe business practices step 2: burn down california step 3: get sued by customers for burning down california step 4: make the customers cover the costs of your lawsuits???????
step 5: go into the customers’ own homes and personally fuck their wives
Here’s an update on the Camp Fire happening in Butte County in Northern California:
1. The fire grew from 70,000 to 90,000 acres and is still only 5% contained. It is now the most destructive fire in California’s history
2. So far there have been 9 confirmed fatalities. 5 of these people died in their cars while trying to evacuate
3. The last incident report I saw said that the fire isn’t expected to be contained until 11/30/2018 but this information might have changed by now
4. A total of 6,713 buildings have been confirmed to be destroyed (6,453 of which were residential buildings, 206 were commercial buildings)
5. A text to donate has been set up by United Way to help with recovery efforts. Text “buttefire” to 91999
6. All school in Butte County is cancelled for the next week
7. The air quality in Chico is extremely bad right now so please stay inside as much as possible and keep your pets inside if you can
The Honey Run Covered Bridge (built in 1886) has been destroyed and is no longer standing. This is really sad news to me because I used to go there as a kid growing up and I’ve spent a lot of time there with my friends as well. It was a historic Chico landmark loved by so many people
Here’s a satellite picture of the fire showing how far the smoke has traveled
Here’s some additional information if anyone living in Chico or Butte County wants to volunteer. There’s also some information on evacuee shelters and animal shelters or if anyone is searching for a missing person.
i haven’t seen any noise about this on tumblr yet, but a fire has completely wiped out a small town in california.
they’re calling it the camp fire. over 20,000 residents have been evacuated so far, the last area estimates i heard were over an hour ago at 18,000 acres and its still zero percent contained.
this is the smoke from about 18 miles away from the fire three hours ago. if you know anyone near chico, paradise, oroville or durham california you might want to check they’re okay
UPDATE: 4PM FRI NOV. 9, 2018
the fire has completely walked over paradise, magalia, and much of the rest of butte county. it’s under 10% containment and moving towards chico, which was been mostly evacuated as well. it’s been documented as one of the top 20 deadliest fires seen in california. i know many of the people personally whose lives have been destroyed by this fire. my aunt and uncle’s home, of whom we’re very close to, was demolished last night, same goes for family friends and others who lived in paradise– which is completely gone. there are 5 confirmed deaths, several dozen missing people.
EVACUATION SITES STILL OPEN AS OF 1 HOUR AGO:
Butte County Fairgrounds (199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA 95948)
Yuba-Sutter Fairground (442 Franklin Ave, Yuba City, CA 95991)
Glenn County Fairgrounds (221 E Yolo St, Orland, CA 95963)
Chester Memorial Hall (22 Gay Street, Chester)
HOW TO HELP/DONATE:
“Currently the best way to contribute is to make a monetary donation via the North Valley Community Foundation website.” -abc7news.com
“Supplies: Hope Center in Oroville (1950 Kitrick Ave Ste. A) is taking donations. Hours: Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Needs: warm clothes, shoes, socks, coats (primarily for elderly residents).” -abc7news.com
the majority of those affected by the fire in paradise were elderly people. and having known paradise and magalia myself for years, it’s not a wealthy part of california. these people will need help, and lots of it.
if you have any questions, you can message me personally or seek information online or from the above references personally.
if you cannot help yourself, please spread the word and reblog. so many wonderful people are going through a terrible thing and need your help.
I live an 1-2hrs away from this fire. I am safe, but I have many friends and teachers who live up there. The eastern parts of Chico are being evacuated, the fire has jumped hwy 99, and there are warnings going out to Oroville in certain areas. There is also a second fire in SoCal that is splitting the resources of the state. Any help would be greatly appreciated and is much needed by these communities. Please share this to spread the word.
I live about an hour and a half from this and the smoke is horrible even here. The current weather isn’t helping at all (low 70s-60s°F and little to no humidity with strong north and east winds and gusts). So many people have been affected so please, please if you can, wherever you live, please donate and/or volunteer if you can.
SIGNALBOOSTTFOUTOFTHIS
paradise is about 3 hours from where i live and the smoke was so bad even down here that we weren’t allowed outside at school today and a lot of people were having trouble breathing. these are california’s dryer months and these fires aren’t going to be put out like tomorrow so please!! signal boost this to spread awareness and donate if you can!! even if you don’t live near the affected areas, your followers might
It was an improvised explosive made by the Philadelphia PD. 61 homes were destroyed. And the media keep silence.
Unbelievable.
Philly is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation, so you shouldn’t be surprised by this.
Why tho?
According to Wikipedia, the housing was a squat for a “black liberation” group known as MOVE.
Apparently there was a firefight between MOVE and PPD, and the Commissioner of the PPD decided that bombing the area would be better than letting the firefight drag on
A little too far considering like 250 people were left homeless
Here’s some more “Russian propaganda”
that “disinformation” meant to ‘divide’ us
Oh my god, one of my friends was talking about this with me today. (I think he knows about this cuz he lived in Pennsylvania at that time)
In all seriousness, this is pretty horrible.
To be fair, a news story that old before cable news isn’t going to be as widely spread as today, an even if it got decently wide attention there’s the issue of “Does a recording of the news broadcast even exist still?”
So we can have in-depth history lessons on WWII and the Holocaust, the Cuban Missile Crisis and JFK and MLK Jr’s assassinations, the Great Depression, the Civil War, the Revolutionary War and the Bill of Rights, but not armed US service members committing terrorism against its own country’s Black citizens less than 40 years ago?
I haven’t seen anything about Greece in a while. In America, we usually have our eyes and ears focused on us and I follow a lot of blogs that are ran by people here in the states. So I looked Greece up. As I thought, they’re still on fire. And no one is talking about it.
To my knowledge, Greece isn’t the most financially stable country. I’m not going to get into the traumatizing stories I read, but I will share where you can send money to help. I’m keeping this post short so it will hopefully be shared; the links will be under the cut. Or what I hope is a cut. I’ve never used one before.
First, two bank accounts that were set up for direct donations
Keep in mind, gofundme charges a 2.9% processing fee with $0.30 fee for every donation. That’s roughly €0.26 or £0.24 on top of the processing fee that grows in amount with the fund. I personally do not like gofundme accounts, but majority of your money will go to help and if that link is easier, by all means, please use it.
(And before anon’s get mad, yes, I know California is on fire. Instead of complaining to me, get Trump to talk about it. He’ll likely say something offensive and then everyone will donate in spite of him. I’ve given money to both causes even though I’m $11k in debt. Don’t be self-centered because I’m trying to help others.)
The emergency crews aren’t allowing pets or livestock because they are basically in crisis mode and running. Redding was already a fallback position, then the Carr fire tripled in size on a single day, burning 40 miles of land.
These are good, salt of the Earth people who are losing their homes. I don’t have donation info or anything but if you know anyone in Norcal, give them a call and make sure they’re alright.
It’s 110°F all week up there. There’s massive winds blowing through the canyon. Zero humidity. The firefighters are just concentrating on getting people out of the way at this point, containment isn’t an option.
My grandparents and aunt (and her large family) live in that area. My aunt actually had to evacuate last night. Donations will help the fight!!
One of the best places to donate to help communities affected by the Carr Fire is the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. They serve Shasta County (where Redding, CA is located) and its surrounding counties.
This is a LOCAL community foundation. All donations will actually go to the community affected by the fire, and additionally, they have a credible history of using this fund to help communities recover after being affected by fires, such as the 2014 Boles Fire in Weed, CA.
My family had to evacuate for four days. Our house survived those four days it was threatened by the fire. Over a thousand other houses in the region did not.
